What did we like?

  • Perfectly cleans windows that are easily covered with dirt
  • Does not make a lot of noise
  • Strongly and firmly "suctions" to the surface to be cleaned (2600Pa)
  • In the event of a constant power supply failure, the robot can survive for about 20 minutes.
  • Can clean different surfaces: windows, tiles, mirrors, etc.
  • It is convenient if there are hard-to-reach windows/places for cleaning at home
  • Good build quality

What didn't we like?

  • The standard set comes with only 2 cloths
  • Voice messages could be of better quality, the speakers could be louder
  • There is no way to control the intensity of the water spray
  • Rather slow performance. Cleans 1 sq.m. in about 2 min.
  • Corners and edges along the window frame remain incompletely cleaned
  • If the window is very dirty, it may be necessary to change the cloth 3-4 times and start the robot for secondary cleaning

Unboxing

The strangely named TOOKFUN W1 window cleaning robot has arrived from AliExpress. The seller shipped from an EU warehouse located in Germany. The shipment was initially handled by DHL, and in Lithuania it was handled by Itella employees as usual. All I had to do was pick up the package from the post office. The parcel arrived in 5 days.

The manufacturer also puts the product packaging in a separate box. A big plus because it protects the product more during travel. There were no damages either on the individual box or on the product packaging. The weight of the whole package is ~2.9KG.

The contents of the product package are as follows: instructions, the window cleaning robot itself and a 5m safety rope attached to it, two cloths, a water bottle, a remote control, and a power supply unit.

Quality

After turning it over, examining and touching the robot itself and its components, I can say that it really looks solid. It's definitely not "cheap". There are no signs of plastic molding on the body, everything is firmly assembled, nothing creaks or creaks. All good.

The capacity of the water bottle is 150 ml. The same amount fits in the liquid tank of the robot itself. The manufacturer says to pour only water or table water, but I think window cleaning liquid wouldn't hurt either.

All cables have "stickers" for neat cable wrapping. After the work is done, you wrap the wires and stick them on, and no mess, smart. The rope also has this adhesive fabric strip. It also has a carabiner on the back, it looks strong enough so it shouldn't break after the first fall, but of course it's better not to have such experiences.

As I mentioned, there are two cloth cleaning cloths in the set. They have 3 layers. On the one hand, the material that cleans the window is like rubber inside, and the last layer is also material that sticks to the "stickers" of the pump itself. The material on the cleaning side resembles a soft carpet.

The power supply unit has a power of 90W. It has an LED indicator light. The plug that plugs into the window robot cable has a locking mechanism, you need to insert it and turn it. This becomes like another small protection in case the robot decides to fall off the glass.

The front part of the window robot has a large button, a container for water/cleaning liquid, an LED indicator light. On the back, there is a red main power button, a sensor in each corner, a USB-A socket for firmware update, two movement rails and a cavity in the middle for suction to the window. 8 fluid nozzles are placed on top between the cloth strips.

Functionality

Robot buttons - as I already mentioned, the red button on the back is for turning on / off the robot itself. On the front, there is a large round button for starting the dry cleaning function.

Three window cleaning modes:

  1. Regular 1-time cleaning;

  2. Deep cleaning 2 times, first zigzags vertically, then zigzags horizontally;

  3. Manual control when operated with the help of a remote control.

The remote control has the following buttons:

  • Manual maneuvering – buttons for manually maneuvering the robot;
  • Play/pause - to stop the robot by manual control;
  • Dry cleaning - intended for dry cleaning of the window, for wiping off dust;
  • Deactivating the voice message – the robot has voice recordings of functions, so these voice messages can be turned off;
  • Wet cleaning - intended for wet window cleaning;
  • On/off nozzles – water spray can additionally be turned on when dry cleaning is activated;
  • X2 button – designed to activate the double cleaning function, the robot will move not only horizontally, but also vertically.

Window cleaning process

We fill the liquid container of the robot with water or a cleaning agent (of course, only if you want to clean it wet), we put a cleaning cloth on it. For initial dry cleaning, the cloth is placed dry, after the robot finishes its work, for further wet cleaning, a moistened but not soaked cloth is placed. The manufacturer recommends using two cloths at the same time. At first, wipe the dust from the window with a wet cloth, and then use a damp cloth and wet cleaning to clean the window completely.

We connect the power cord, hook it somewhere safely with a safety rope, press the red power button on the back and place the robot on the window. The robot will feel that it is on and will pull itself up. It should be placed on the window in the middle of it so that the W1 can easily plan its cleaning path when launched.

To send the robot to work, you can press the round button on the top of the robot or select the desired function from the remote control. Pressing the button on the robot activates dry cleaning. The robot will turn horizontally, go to one side of the window and then to the other, then go up, then go down and find out what the area of the window is. After cleaning, it will return to the beginning. When the robot returns, you need to press and hold the round button for a few seconds to reduce the traction and be able to remove it from the window.

What did we like?

The manufacturer really thought about programming the return to the starting point after the work done. Imagine how unpleasant it would be if, after cleaning large windows, the W1 stopped somewhere at the highest point, and the remote control did not work, how you would have to turn your head to move it from there.

The robot does not make a lot of noise during operation. 4 sensors notify the robot if it has been outside the window and prevent it from falling. If the power cord unexpectedly disconnects or the electricity goes out at home, this would not be a problem for the robot, because it has integrated batteries inside it, which will act as a protection and allow the robot to continue to be "sucked" for another 20 minutes.

Perfectly cleans windows that are not covered with dirt. It is also possible to clean bathroom tiles, large mirrors, glass walls and similar surfaces. If the room has windows, glass or similar coverings in hard-to-reach places, this job will become much easier with the robot. At the moment when it is blowing on the top, you can calmly drink any coffee.

If you try to open it during operation, it is quite difficult to do so. The Tookfun W1 robot has really good suction (2600Pa) and holds firmly on the surface to be cleaned. Even if you trip over the wire, this hard worker will not fall to the ground. He won't be afraid of a little wind blowing outside either.

What we didn't like?

I did not quite understand why there is a water bottle in the set, it does not cause any problems if you need to add liquid, even from a cup. It would be better to add another cloth. Because I found only two cloths in the set. I would think that there should be at least 3. After every 3rd window, the cloth needs to be washed, because it gets dirty very quickly if the windows are really dirty, and they are from the outside.

If the windows are low and very worn, I would highly recommend inspecting the glass and assessing whether there are any small stones. According to the manufacturer's recommendations, when testing the robot, I first cleaned with a dry method, as a result of which a small stone caught slightly scratched the window glass. However, I think a wet wipe would have done the same here. When removing the robot after wet cleaning, if the first window is not being cleaned with the same cloth, the dirt that was accumulated on the cloth remains.

There are things to remember when operating manually. that left/right is treated from its front side, ie if it is cleaned from the outside and controlled from the room, then if you press left, it will move to the right. Also, if you want to change the driving trajectory, you must first press the play / pause button and only then change the direction. In short, it is inconvenient to control with a remote control.

Voicemail is a tragedy. The sound is crackling, so only after listening very carefully can you hear whether the additional spraying is on or off, because the pronunciation is the same, you can only tell from the intonation that it might have been turned off. For me personally, the additional spray is very small, or it does not work at all in the received device. I really didn't notice the extra spray on the dry window.

Quite a long window cleaning. Cleans a 3m² window in ~6 minutes with a one-time cleaning function. If there is still skidding, it will have to be cleaned a second time. Imagine cleaning in the summertime. Window glass is a hostage, so even if the cleaning liquid is additionally sprayed on the glass, it evaporates very quickly and the glass will be cleaned dry. Also, the corners, places at the frames (approximately 2-3 cm from the frames) are not cleaned perfectly. You have to clean these places yourself.

Verdict

Personally, cleaning windows is not one of my favorite jobs. You can't clean it really clean with ordinary cloths. I was looking for ways to make this tedious work easier, I have purchased a device from a well-known manufacturer that simply sucks up the glass that has been wiped with window cleaning liquid.

I really wanted to try how the robot window cleaning technology has been developed. My observations are as follows. I agree, if the windows will be cleaned at least once a month, then a window robot will be very useful, or if you live in an apartment that is high and there is no big dirt or it is difficult to reach certain places, then I would definitely recommend buying a window robot.

However, if the windows are not the highest priority and are cleaned once a season, or if you live near the main street, where the windows often get covered with fine gravel, I would not really recommend a robot. In this case, the glasses can be seriously damaged, and then higher costs will be required.
