Unboxing
Wanbo T2R Max arrived from Banggood e-store, shipping from EU warehouse took about 1 week, everything is nice and tidy, packaging without any damage. Inside I found the projector itself, the necessary cables for operation, the manual book and the remote control. The only thing missing from complete happiness was 2x AAA batteries, which are needed specifically for the remote control. Eh!
Quality / design
After taking the Wanbo T2R Max projector out of the box, the first thought was: "What a nice, small, fun design." And actually, for me personally, it's a very nice design in a modern retro style, it really surprised me with its size, because I thought it would be much bigger. The assembly quality is budget level, because the projector itself costs about €180, so it would be naive to expect something premium. The remote control is basic, also a bit cheap, but the most important thing is that it works smoothly.
Connection
We connect the power cable, press the power button at the top and the projector starts charging. Of course, at the same time we find AAA batteries, because there is another way apart from the remote control - to control the projector, navigate through Android, etc. - there is no. After a dozen seconds, the main HOME screen turns on, and we can start messing around and testing what and how it works, what the projector's capabilities are.
Video quality
Bearing in mind that this is a budget-class mini projector, the brightness and quality of the image was quite a positive surprise. Of course, I can't compare it with other similar models, previously I only had to test the 3x more expensive Xiaomi 2 Pro, but I'll try to convey what I saw with my own eyes. Let's try!
The Wanbo T2R Max has a brightness of 350 ANSI, which is not much in the general context, but this brightness is more than enough in low light, or even better, of course, no light at all (in the dark). In principle, it is best to make movie nights with such a projector when it is getting dark outside, and since winter is coming, there will be many, many such nights... During the day, when there is more sun/illumination, the image will be dim, blurry (see photos, comparison under different lighting).
1080P resolution is really enough and optimal for a device of this size. Having a screen size of about 75" - even the letters of a smaller font are quite readable, the brightness is sufficient (in a dark environment) and it is possible to enjoy Netlix, YouTube or other favorite content. Overall - I would give the image quality ~ 8.5/10 considering the price of the projector .
Features / Android
Although the parameters do not stand out, only 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, but Android 9.0 runs quite decently. There are no stifling lags, the control panel is responsive, you can navigate through the menu, select APPs, etc. - everything is really normal. Of course, certain APPs take longer to load, there is some loading time, but really everything is within the limits of patience. APPs tested and working: Go3, Netflix, YouTube, F1 TV. Miracast was the only one that didn't work. If you are interested in something specific - write it in the comments, I will try it!
The focus of the image is done manually, there is a built-in dial on the top of the projector. It is also possible to adjust the edges of the screen (keystone), if, for example, the projector is not completely in the center (relative to the wall / screen), in order to obtain a neat rectangle. You can also flip the image in all directions, so if you want, you can hang the projector itself on the ceiling.
There are 3.5mm audio, USB and HDMI connections on the back of the projector. But in reality, when there is Android and all the main APPs work - it is not necessary to connect anything via HDMI cable. Well, if there is a need - it is there. I haven't played the games, so I can't comment on the input lag (but there probably won't be any miracles). Haha.
Sound quality
Wanbo T2R Max has completely basic 2* 3W speakers, which are really not good... Quite poor sound quality and low sound strength. The good news is that you can connect something more serious via the 3.5mm/HDMI connection or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Well, any more powerful Tronsmart or other BT column - and the viewing experience will immediately increase at least several times. Trust me!
Bonus - an idea
Since I had a BlitzWolf 500W power station on the side, I tested how the projector works with it. And everything is fine, no problem. I think such a combo would be quite nice if you are going somewhere on a trip and in the evening you can watch a movie with your significant other, children or just friends in nature. And since the projector itself weighs only 1 kg, it takes up little space - a very portable option is obtained.
Is it worth buying?
If you are looking for a cheap, compact, light, fun design "mini" series projector with Android support, Full HD 1080p resolution and sufficient 350 ANSI brightness (for use in darker environments) - then Wanbo T2R Max would be a great choice. For more enjoyable movie nights, I would advise you to make sure you have better sound quality, and of course, lots of popcorn!
On the other hand - if "portability" is not the main aspect and you can raise the budget to 250 EUR - then maybe I would recommend the Wanbo T6 Max model, which has somewhat more powerful speakers and at the same time a higher brightness of 550 ANSI. You can find links and discount coupons for both of these models in the comments!
